The Houston Rockets, among other teams, are interested in Brooklyn Nets wing Cam Johnson, according to a recent article by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. Johnson enters this offseason as a restricted free-agent (RFA) which means that the Nets can match any offer sheet made to Johnson, according to NBA.com.
Per HoopsHype, Johnson is expected to be offered a contract in the neighborhood of four years and $90 million because of the potential he has to being high-level scorer and shooter for a team. The former 11th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft showed during his time in Brooklyn that he can be more than just a elite shooter as he showed his ability to create opportunities off the dribble as well.
Brooklyn has a lot to consider this offseason as they decide whether they want to go all-in on winning a championship, staying where they are as a middling team, or go into a full rebuild hoping to find their future superstar in the draft. In the meantime, the Nets will have to decide if they are willing to pay Johnson what he is expected to earn on the open market. Bleacher Report thinks that Brooklyn should watch out for the Indiana Pacers:
“Johnson could justify that cost, though. He has emerged as one of the Association’s better three-and-D wings while perhaps growing the rest of his game in such a way that he might be shedding that label. He is creating more offense for himself and his teammates while setting career-highs in points (15.5) and field-goal percentage (47) with a career low in turnover percentage (6.6), per Basketball Reference.
Interest in Johnson figures to be sky-high. Few teams, if any, have enough two-way wings right now. The Rockets are expected to have interest in him, per Scotto, but they are one of only several suitors.
Prediction: Johnson signs with the Indiana Pacers.”
