Hoops and Helmets: Where Oklahoma’s combined football and basketball team ranks

The Oklahoma Sooners combined football and basketball rankings from CFN put the Crimson and Cream in the top 10.

This past season for both the football program and the basketball program, they had their ups and downs.

Following the opening game victory of Missouri State, the football program lost back-to-back games against Iowa State and Kansas State as they headed into the Red River Rivalry. From the second half of that game on, the Sooners went on a tear as they finished the season with eight straight wins to secure their sixth-consecutive Big 12 Championship.

The basketball team under Lon Kruger climbed into the top 10 following victories over Kansas, Texas, and Alabama. The Sooners would go on to just win four of their final 10 games including a second-round loss to Kansas in the Big 12 tournament.

College Football News put together their Hoops and Helmet rankings for all 130 teams in Division 1. The Oklahoma Sooners finished with the highest combined ranking in the Big 12 coming in at No. 6 overall.

Previous Rankings:

  • 2020 (7th)
  • 2019 (2nd)
  • 2018 (7th)

Football: 9-2 (6-2 in Big 12)

Basketball: 16-11 (9-8 in Big 12)

It wasn’t quite the year the Sooners might have wanted, but the football team won another Big 12 title and throttled Florida in the bowl, and the hoops side had a decent season with a tournament appearance.

Remaining Big 12 Rankings:

  • Baylor Bears: No.
  • Texas Longhorns: No. 9
  • Oklahoma State Cowboys: No. 19
  • West Virginia Mountaineers: No. 31
  • Iowa State Cyclones: No. 56
  • Kansas Jayhawks: No. 63
  • Texas Tech Red Raiders: No. 73
  • Texas Christian Horned Frogs: No. 76
  • Kansas State Wildcats: No. 111
