Arkansas and Central Arkansas played last year for the first time since 1947. On Wednesday night at Bud Walton Arena, they’ll do it again for the second time in two seasons.
The No. 9 Razorbacks will be seeking a seventh straight win to start the season just a day after cracking the Top 10 in the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll. Tip is at 7 p.m.
Only one opponent of Arkansas’ six so far this season has managed to stay within single digits of the Razorbacks. Arkansas coach Eric Musselman is far from satisfied, though. He has his eyes on a prize bigger than ordinary double-digit-margin wins. The Hogs went to the Elite Eight in 2020-21 and their ranking suggests they could again.
Central Arkansas (1-6) is likely to provide competition just above a glorified practice. The Bears, in their first season in the ASUN where they were picked to finish last, have only one win this year: against Oral Roberts, the team that Arkansas beat in the Sweet 16 last year.
They’re led by former Arkansas forward Darious Hall. Hall spent one season with the Razorbacks under former coach Mike Anderson before transferring to DePaul for the last two years. Accordingly, no one remains on the Arkansas roster who was around during his time.
Hall is second on the team in scoring (9.7 points per game), assists (2.4) and steals (1). He also leads the team in rebounding with 6.7 a game.
