Hodges said he had the ultimate opportunity to be a force for change during that 1992 White House visit. The Bulls met with then-President George H. W. Bush. “I wrote him a letter about the economic impact of the economy on black people,” Hodges said. “They said (the letter) was about the (First Gulf) War, but that wasn’t true. The economy was only good for the top one percent.” Hodges said he was not able to get close enough to Bush during the visit to deliver the letter or express his concerns. “I wore a dashiki to the White House, and that was it,” Hodges said. “I went to the White House with total respect. No team would give me a contract again.”
