On May 3, 2011, Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose became the youngest player in NBA history to be named the Most Valuable Player at 22 years, 191 days old.
Rose was named the MVP after posting averages of 25 points, 7.7 assists and 4.1 rebounds to lead the Bulls to the top seed in the Eastern Conference. He earned 113 out of a possible 120 first-place votes to claim the Maurice Podoloff Trophy.
The accomplishment by Rose came in just his third season in the league. He narrowly beat Wes Unseld as the youngest player to win the award, who was 23 years and nine days old when he won in 1969. Rose was the second Bulls player to ever win, joining Michael Jordan, who won five times.
