History of QBs returning from injury favors comeback for Ben Roethlisberger

The past sets the Steelers Ben Roethlisberger up for a big 2020 season.

If the returns of veteran quarterbacks post-injury are any indication, Ben Roethlisberger could be looking at a comeback season in 2020.

The last two quarterbacks to miss 10 or more games at age 35 and over have posted 13 wins in the season following their absence.

  • Peyton Manning (Indianapolis Colts)
    2011 – neck
    2012 record – 13-3
  • Caron Palmer (Arizona Cardinals)
    2014 – knee, shoulder
    2015 record – 13-3

Despite Roethlisberger’s injury history, 2019 was the first season in his 16-year career that he had missed more than five games.

It’s anybody’s guess how aggressive the Steelers will be with the passing attack this year. In his last complete season, Big Ben averaged a career-high 40 throws per game. He ended 2018 with 675 attempts and 452 completions.
