The Tennessee Titans made the four-year, $94 million contract extension of defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons officially official on Wednesday, with the team holding a press conference following its most recent move.
Simmons was understandably emotional while looking back at his life in the wake of the new deal and talking about being able to take care of his family, and especially his mom, who was a single parent.
“My mom, single parent,” Simmons said while tearing up, per Jim Wyatt of Titans Online. “Just to see the journey we have been on as a family. It’s crazy,” he added.
“I think, man, from house to house, apartment to apartment. Sharing a bed with my brother. Now, we’re good… It’s generational wealth, as we call it. It’s who I do it for. Every day I wake up, I think about those hard times where I know my mom didn’t feel like it. Sometimes I am hurting, but I think about my mom, having raised five kids on her own. For me to say, I don’t want to do this. That’s my motivation, my family.”
Tears stream down the face of #Titans DL @GrindSimmons94 as he talks about his mother, and his journey.

I can’t begin to describe how happy I am that the Titans got this done with Simmons, who deserved every single penny of the contract he received.
Now, a look at the rest of the highlights from his presser.
