Instead of discussing the upcoming opponent on Saturday, it seems that the main talking points surround the current head football coach. For good reason, the fanbase seems to have seen enough of the current head coach. Ed Orgeron is 8-7 in the last 15 games since the 15-0 run in 2019.
It goes far beyond just the 15 games since the 2019 season that saw a mass exodus of talent and staff. No surprises since the players moved on to the next level and coaches took better opportunities. Joe Brady went from passing game coordinator to NFL offensive coordinator and Dave Aranda left for a head coaching gig. Orgeron hasn’t had the same impact without those two assistants or Joe Burrow pulling the strings on the field.
Scenario | Wins | Losses | Points Scored | Points Allowed |
W/ Burrow | 25 | 3 | 41.0/game | 21.8/game |
W/out Burrow | 23 | 13 | 30.2/game | 23.1/game |
Looking at the 36 games without Burrow at quarterback, the defense gave up just slightly more points per game than with him. However, without Burrow, this offense scored over 10 points per game less. Of the 13 losses, seven of those losses were within 10 points. It very well could be a different story.
I have made my case that the offense has been a reason for a huge chunk of their difficulties this season. I even pointed blame directly at head coach Ed Orgeron and his recent hires. Now it is your turn to grade the head coach.
