The Florida Gators come in just outside the top 25 in CBS Sports’ latest rankings of all FBS teams. They are currently the No. 27 team in the nation. They are the No. 8 team from the SEC and are two spots back from in-state rival Florida State.
Despite the dominant victory over Eastern Washington last week, the Gators dropped one spot from last week’s ranking. While surprising, it’s not entirely shocking. Florida played an inferior FCS opponent, and the game was taken care of before halftime. While rare that a team falls in the rankings after a victory, this specific situation is understandable, especially when teams like TCU and UCLA jumped 23 and 18 spots to No. 12 and No. 14, respectively.
The Orange and Blue’s opponent next week is Missouri, who comes in at No. 66 nationally and as the No. 13 team in the SEC. Despite losing to Georgia last week, the Tigers jumped nine spots in the rankings. In what was expected to be a blowout, Missouri proved that they can hang with the best of them. Their defense is good and they’ll challenge the Gators along the line of scrimmage all game.
Florida’s SEC matchup against Missouri will be played on Saturday from Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in the Gator’s homecoming game. Kickoff is scheduled for noon EDT. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
