Here’s what Mac Jones told Zach Wilson after a rough Week 2

Mac Jones believes Zach Wilson has a bright future.

The New England Patriots and New York Jets game featured a battle of rookie quarterbacks on Sunday. Zach Wilson was paired up against Mac Jones. Jones held his own in the battle, going 22-of-30 on the afternoon. Throwing for 186 yards, a 32-yard pass was his longest of the afternoon.

For Wilson, he went 19-of-33. However, his day was marred by interceptions, as he threw four on the afternoon.

In defeat, Jones shared encouraging words to Wilson. As he noted in his press conference, he believes the former BYU start can get past this bump in the road.

“I think Zach’s a really good player. As rookie quarterbacks — it’s what I told him after the game — we just have to continue to get better. It’s just part of the game, and our defense is really good. It’s a tough defense to go against. I go against them in practice and I probably throw a lot of picks too. It sucks. Zack is going to be a great player and he’s a really hard worker. He kept his head up. We just had some brief words at the end there. I do not know him that well personally, but he is definitely going to continue to grow just like I will too.”

With both quarterbacks figuring to be the faces of their respective franchises, we may see this matchup quite often for the foreseeable future.
