A recent report from The Athletic suggests North Carolina is seriously considering hiring Bill Belichick as their next head coach. However, multiple hurdles remain for a deal to get done.
Some have wondered if Belichick was merely using the Tar Heels as a way to boost his stock in NFL circles for a possible coaching job in 2025. But it appears as if the former New England Patriots coach is seriously considering a move to the collegiate level at North Carolina.
The Athletic’s Ralph D. Russo, Brendan Marks and Dianna Russini pulled their sources for the latest update on Tuesday:
A deal has not been agreed to and terms are still being negotiated, the sources said. While a deal may still come together quickly, sources cautioned that nothing is imminent and the sides remain apart on multiple key terms.
Boston Herald’s Andrew Callahan wondered if money could be the biggest hurdle right now between Belichick and North Carolina. The resources it would take to facilitate a Belichick run in college could be a major hurdle for the program.
Would it be so much of a hurdle that it potentially nixes this pipe dream pairing altogether?
Time will tell.
