Here’s how rare it is for a QB with no career TDs to start a playoff game

John Wolford and Ron Jaworski are the only two quarterbacks to do this.

John Wolford got the nod for the Rams on Saturday against the Seahawks, earning the start at quarterback in place of Jared Goff, who is still recovering from thumb surgery. It’s only his second NFL game after starting last week against the Cardinals, so Sean McVay is putting his trust in a highly inexperienced quarterback.

Wolford hasn’t even scored a touchdown in the NFL yet, which makes this start in the playoffs extremely rare. According to Rich Eisen of NFL Network, Wolford is only the second quarterback in the Super Bowl era to start a playoff game with zero career touchdowns.

Wolford may not have any touchdowns, but he looked good against the Cardinals last week and led the Rams to the red zone four times – and even had a perfect touchdown pass to Gerald Everett dropped.

We’ll see if this decision to start Wolford over Goff pays off for Los Angeles.
