Here are Kyrie Irving’s next steps before returning

The Nets star’s long-awaited return is going to take “a while.”

Before the excitement continues to brew, we must understand that Kyrie Irving’s return may be a bit more delayed than his teammates after returning from COVID. The seven-time All-Star is expected to not be in NBA shape after not playing a single NBA game since June. As of now, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski confirms that Irving will take part in one-one-one workouts to go along with his ramp up and testing process.

“He’s got to provide two negative tests over a 24-hour period like everybody else to get him out of protocols. When he starts to ramp back up with the Nets, it’s going to start one-on-one workouts and then you work your way up from there – It’s going to take the Nets and Kyrie Irving a while to get him at an NBA level before he returns.”

We may be able to realistically see the 29-year-old suited up on the court in January, but if things go smoothly in the coming days, it could be as early as the end of the month.
