With just two weeks to go in the season, the Heisman race is a virtual dead heat with the front-runners slated to go head-to-head on the final day of the regular season.
Florida QB Kyle Trask continues to hold the lead in the USA TODAY Network weekly Heisman survey. But Alabama QB Mac Jones closed the gap this week with help from one of his teammates, who is also making a late push for the award.
For the season, Trask now has 3,243 passing yards and 38 touchdowns, an average of over four scoring throws per game, with a completion percentage of 71.4. Jones isn’t far behind in the voting as well as in the yardage category with 3,113 yards with 27 TD passes.

But while Jones closed the gap thanks to his big night at LSU, the highlight-filled performance of DeVonta Smith on the other end of many of his throws did not go unnoticed.
Smith had three touchdown catches and over 200 receiving yards in the first half alone and now has 15 scores and 1,305 yards for the season. He moved into a third-place tie with Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence in this week’s survey.
Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields leads a group of four other players picking up a spattering of votes.
