Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra said on Thursday that rookie Tyler Herro is making progress in his recovery from a right ankle sprain, according to David Wilson of the Miami Herald.
Herro has missed the last nine games due to the injury suffered on Feb. 3 against the Philadelphia 76ers. While the injury is not as serious as initially thought, there is still no official timetable for his return to the court.
“He’s doing more, but I don’t have a new update for you,” Spoelstra said. “He’s definitely doing more. If you show up early tomorrow, you might see him out there.”
Herro told reporters over All-Star Weekend that the injury was once thought to keep him out until the start of the playoffs though that is no longer the case after progressing in his recovery.
The rookie has emerged as a key piece for the Heat this season, averaging 13.1 points, four rebounds and two assists in 46 games played. Without Herro, the Heat have gone just 2-7.
The Heat host the Dallas Mavericks next on Friday.
