Heat rookie Tyler Herro is ‘off-limits’ in trade discussions

As the Heat are expected to be active in trade discussions ahead of the deadline on Thursday, Herro is reportedly off the table.

Miami Heat rookie Tyler Herro has emerged as a key player this season for head coach Erik Spoelstra and is reportedly off-limits in potential trade discussions as a result, according to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated.

With the NBA trade deadline looming at 3 p.m. ET on Thursday, the Heat have been reportedly among the teams looking to make a deal before then. The Heat have been linked to players such as Jrue Holiday and Danillo Gallinari among others.

As Mannix wrote on Tuesday, the Heat like Herro and do not plan to move him as of now. Of course, that stance could change ahead of the deadline but it would likely take a monumental offer to pry the 14th overall pick away from Miami.

The Heat hit big with the Herro/Duncan Robinson/Kendrick Nunn pickups, and Miami isn’t interested in any contracts that stretch beyond 2021 … when Giannis Antetokounmpo could be a free agent, and Pat Riley will have another chance to lure a transformational star to South Beach.

Herro is averaging 13.1 points, four rebounds and two assists in 46 games this season. He was recently selected to play in the NBA Rising Stars Game during All-Star Weekend as he ranks sixth among all rookies in scoring and is first in 3-pointers made with 99.

The Heat view Herro as a long-term piece and will not trade him for pennies on the dollar.

The organization previously excluded Herro in trade discussions when they were rumored to be interested in Russell Westbrook before he was ultimately traded to the Houston Rockets during the offseason so it would take a lot to acquire Herro.
