If you were born before or during the 1990s, odds are you have heard of music icon Missy Elliott. If you were born after the 1990s, though, there is a high chance you haven’t heard of her, as some rookies recently proved.
Most of the rookies that entered the NBA this season were born between the years of 1996 to 2000. Detroit Pistons first-round pick Sekou Doumbouya is the youngest player, born on Dec. 23, 2000. By contrast, the oldest rookie in the 2019 NBA Draft class is Brandon Clarke, born on Sept. 19, 1996.
Over All-Star Weekend, ESPN caught up with several first-year players to test their knowledge on 90s pop culture. Some did well while others, like Tyler Herro, hilariously had never heard of Elliott. Her picture stumped a few players at first but R.J. Barrett eventually figured it out.

Can someone let Tyler Herro know about the legend that is @MissyElliott, please? pic.twitter.com/TOmNhWnF1t

Elliott rose to fame in the late 1990s to early 2000s, selling millions of albums and singles. She is the only female rapper to have six albums to go platinum.
The rooks in the NBA may need to brush up a bit on her music.
