After a three-game absence, Miami Heat rookie Kendrick Nunn returned to the lineup on Friday and scored a team-high 23 points during a 109-92 loss to the Indiana Pacers in the regular-season finale.
Though Nunn led the Heat in scoring, he struggled to shoot from the field, converting on just 8-of-27 attempts while he went 1-of-9 from 3-point range. He hasn’t shot well during his time at Disney after posting just a 32.4/25/100 shooting split in four appearances prior to Friday.
Nunn departed the Wide World of Sports Complex on Aug. 9 to tend to a personal matter and returned to the team on Aug. 11. He self-isolated for four days upon returning and was cleared to play on Wednesday but sat out because of a non-COVID 19 illness.
Prior to the matchup, Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra said it will be important for the younger guys on the team to play with several players resting. The same can also be said about Nunn, who has not returned to himself after dealing with the coronavirus earlier this summer.
While he struggled from the field once again, perhaps something as simple as seeing the ball go through the net a few times can help him get back into the groove as the Heat begin the playoffs on Tuesday against the Pacers.
