Heat hopeful Tyler Herro can return prior to the All-Star break

With the Heat set to begin a six-game road trip that leads directly into the All-Star break, the team is hopeful Herro can play before then.

Miami Heat rookie Tyler Herro was seen in a walking boot at shootaround on Wednesday morning after suffering a foot injury on Monday night against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Herro exited the win over the 76ers early and would not return due to what the team called right foot soreness. He recorded just two points on 1-of-6 shooting from the field prior to leaving.

The Heat begin a six-game road trip on Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Clippers, which leads directly into the All-Star break. Head coach Erik Spoelstra is hopeful Herro can return before the conclusion of the road trip Feb. 12 against the Utah Jazz, via Ira Winderman of the Sun-Sentinel.

That’s the hope, but we’ll be smart about it. Right now, we’re just giving him rest and treatment, trying to protect him from himself. He really wants to be out there and he was able to grind through it for the last 10 days. But we want to take care of this right now and make sure it doesn’t become anything more.

Herro has remained mostly healthy during his rookie season with the Heat.

He has missed just three games this season, two due to a knee injury and one for a sprained ankle. In 46 games this season, Herro is averaging 13.1 points, four rebounds and two assists.

Herro was recently selected to play in the NBA Rising Stars Game during All-Star Weekend though his status for that event on Feb. 14 is unclear due to his injury.
