PHILADELPHIA–The Philadelphia 76ers have a new star duo in the form of Joel Embiid and James Harden as they get set to make a serious run at an NBA title. The tandem has played 11 games together and they have a net rating of 15.7 out on the floor.
The Miami Heat, who have yet to see the Sixers when they have both stars on the floor, understand what the two of them can do. The Heat have played the Sixers twice since the deadline day trade with only Embiid playing in the March 5 matchup and neither playing in Philadelphia’s upset win over the Heat on Monday.
Nonetheless, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra is very aware of how dangerous Harden and Embiid can be for the Sixers out on the floor.
“It’s a great fit,” said Spoelstra. “Their games complement each other, either guy can make plays, either guy can be the recipient from the other guy, and we’re just talking about two MVP-caliber talents. That has a way of making itself work out.”
Spoelstra has a history of coaching stars during his time with the Heat. He has coached the likes of Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Jimmy Butler, and others and he has had a ton of success getting it all to work out on the floor.
The Sixers do not have much time to make it work with the new star duo, but Harden and Embiid seem motivated to make sure this works for the Sixers as they move forward.
