Heartbreak: Arkansas’ golf season over Hogs eliminated from NCAAs by one stroke

Two more birdies at any point in the three rounds and Arkansas would have finished in third and played for a national title.

Arkansas’ third round at the NCAA Palm Beach Gardens Regional was its best.

It was just not quite enough.

The Razorbacks were eliminated from national title contention Wednesday despite shooting a tourney-best 2-over-par. For the tournament, Arkansas was 16-over and just one stroke behind fifth-place LSU. The top five finishers at each regional across the country advance the NCAA Championships.

Tenth-ranked Texas and Northwestern tied for third, each finishing with at 14-over. No. 28 Duke was second at 11-over. And No. 34 Michigan State led wire to wire, ultimately scoring an 8-over to win the regional.

Kajal Mastry was Arkansas’ best individual finisher. She finished in fifth with a 216 over three rounds to score even. Reagan Zibiliski shot a team-best 69, with Mastry, in the final round to finish second on the team.

The regional appearance was Arkansas’ 20th straight.
