Whenever a team makes a change at quarterback, there are always going to be questions. For the Raiders, moving on from Derek Carr to Jimmy Garoppolo certainly feels like a risk. One of the biggest reasons why is the inability of Garoppolo to stay on the field.
In a recent article by ESPN, they looked at the biggest question mark surrounding all 32 starting quarterbacks entering the 2023 season. For Garoppolo, it is his health. Here is a snippet of their thoughts on Garoppolo heading into the year:
The question about Garoppolo is always health. Only once in his career has he played a full season, and that was 2019. With Brian Hoyer and fourth-round rookie Aidan O’Connell behind Garoppolo on the depth chart, the Raiders can’t afford a long Garoppolo absence if they want to contend for an AFC playoff spot.
If Garoppolo can stay healthy for all 17 games, the Raiders should have a chance to have a lot of success on offense. They are loaded with offensive playmakers and the offensive line should be improved in 2023.
But if Garoppolo can’t stay on the field, the Raiders could struggle to win more than six games. Needless to say, they are really banking on Garoppolo to stay healthy to have any chance of winning this season.
