Head coach Karl Dorrell proud of Buffs’ new additions: “Progress has been made”

Karl Dorrell was a happy head coach on National Signing Day

The Buffs have officially signed three players (so far) in this second signing period: 2022 OL Van Wells and JUCO transfers OL Alex Harkey and S Jeremy Mack Jr. Former Sam Houston State RB Ramon Jefferson, who will join the Buffs in June as a grad transfer, also signed.

Colorado has now added 30 players in preparation for the 2022 season. That number includes 22 high school signees, three JUCO transfers and five new players out of the transfer portal.

There was plenty of energy in Colorado head coach Karl Dorrell’s voice when he spoke to the media on National Signing Day.

“We’ve made some impactful additions in our program that we think are going to be pretty evident that you’ll see in the fall,” Dorrell said. “I really like where the team is right now. The offseason is going really well — they’re working hard.”

You can already notice based on other transfers such as Chance Main that the Buffs are looking like a team with a chip on their shoulder. They may not have the sexy four or five-star recruits, but the players currently in that locker room want to be in Boulder and they want to prove themselves.

Dorrell sensed a similar vibe from his returning players.

“The team that was here last year and that’s still here now, they have a renewed sense of energy about the additions that are coming on board,” Dorrell said. “There is kind of a wiping of the slate, so to speak… There’s a lot of anticipation and excitement within the team and the coaches about getting started and in ’22.”

Perhaps it’s just coach speak, but there’s reason to like what is developing.
