“He came out of practice one day,” McCallum said, “and there were so many people around, and he knew I wanted to do a story, and he said, jump into his car … he started speeding through the Deerfield Municipal (area). I’m known for not being exactly conservative behind the wheel, but this is a white-knuckle journey. And so Michael’s tearing through this parking lot, and he gets stopped twice. One kid jumps out and he made kind of a rap tape for Michael. Then he gets stopped again, and somebody else had designed a sweatsuit for him. And I’m thinking, for a journalist, this is gold, when you show and not tell. You’re trying to figure out, how do you show what kind of life or what level of fame this guy has? Well, he gets stopped, and people are designing stuff for him.”
