Against the Indianapolis Colts, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt continued his push for Defensive Player of the Year. Watt had two more sacks bringing his season total to 15 and was everywhere on the football field all game long.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin acknowledged Watt’s greatness as he made his case for why Watt should be the DPOY.
“TJ’s visiting from another planet,” Tomlin said. “He’s got freakishly unique talent, combined with freakishly unique work habits— which in my opinion is defensive player of the year quality.”
Watt has been an absolute terror to opposing quarterbacks this season and for the last three seasons. Watt is first in sacks with 15, tackles for loss with 23 and quarterback hits with 42.
If the Steelers are going to make a deep run in the playoffs, the play of Watt is going to be a huge factor. Since Bud Dupree went down with a knee injury, the sledding has gotten even tougher for the Steelers defense but Watt continues to push ahead.
