HBO has released the first trailer for “Angel City,” a three-part documentary series featuring Angel City FC coming in May.
The series will follow the origin story of the LA-based NWSL team through the conclusion of its 2022 expansion season.
Angel City made plenty of headlines even before the team kicked a ball due to a star-studded ownership group that includes founders Kara Nortman, Natalie Portman and Julie Uhrman, as well as investors like Alexis Ohanian, Christina Aguilera, Jessica Chastain, Glennon Doyle, Billie Jean King, Julie Foudy, Jennifer Garner, Mia Hamm, Abby Wambach, Eva Longoria and more.
“Sometimes you dream impossible dreams,” Portman says in the trailer, “and then you kind of let them go away, and you’re like, ‘Oh, that’s silly.’ But then sometimes, someone you love and respect says, ‘No, that’s a good idea, keep going.'”
The series is directed by Arlene Nelson (“Gutsy” and HBO’s “Naked States”) and Portman is included in a list of executive producers.
