Haynes: There is no timetable for return of Sixers star Joel Embiid

The Philadelphia 76ers plan to be very cautious with Joel Embiid down the stretch of the season.

The Philadelphia 76ers have not had the services of superstar Joel Embiid since March 12 when he suffered a knee injury in a win over the Washington Wizards. The next day, it was announced that he suffered a bone bruise and that he would miss at least 2-to-3 weeks.

The Sixers since then have gone 4-1 without the MVP candidate and the one loss came in overtime to the Milwaukee Bucks on the second night of a back-to-back. They have been able to overcome his absence and have been able to get the job done on the floor without him.

They sit at 30-14 and are on top of the Eastern Conference and that is why the team will remain cautious with their big man, according to Yahoo!’s Chris Haynes:

MVP candidate Joel Embiid is expected to be reevaluated at the end of the week for the bone bruise on his left knee. Embiid has been out since March 12.

There is no established return date for the Philadelphia 76ers All-Star. The organization will be extremely cautious and wait patiently until he’s back to MVP form physically and mentally, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The objective is to make sure he’s 100 percent ready to go for the playoffs, sources said.

Embiid has been hobbled in the playoffs in the past which has derailed Philadelphia’s title hopes. As long as the team continues to win on a consistent basis, the idea is to make sure the big fella is all set to go when the games matter the most in May and June.
