Following the NBA draft last week, the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday signed a trio of first-year players, including former USC center Onyeka Okongwu, the sixth overall pick.
Okongwu earned First Team All-Pac 12 honors last season after averaging 16.2 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.7 blocks and 1.2 steals. He emerged as perhaps the top defensive center in the country last season and has been touted for his potential to develop into a strong two-way player.
The 19-year-old is reportedly dealing with a minor foot injury after suffering a fractured left big toe during the pre-draft process. Okongwu is expected to make a full recovery and his availability for the start of the 2020-21 season will not be impacted.

In addition to Okongwu, the Hawks also reached contract agreements with former LSU guard Skylar Mays, who was the 50th overall pick, and undrafted forward Nathan Knight from William & Mary.
Mays and Knight were both signed to two-way contracts.
