North Carolina will begin its NCAA Tournament run in the Terre Haute Regional on Friday when they face off against the Iowa Hawkeyes.
To get ready for the game, we talked to Josh Helmer of Hawkeyes Wire to get the breakdown on Iowa. Helmer talked about how UNC can exploit the Hawkeyes:
While Iowa’s pitching has been largely fabulous, one thing you’ll notice about the Hawkeyes is they will give up free passes. In fact, Iowa surrendered the second-most walks in the Big Ten. The league’s best pitching staff and nearly the league’s most walks surrendered. Doesn’t exactly go together, right? What can you say? I guess Iowa just likes to live on the wild side.
Iowa’s pitching staff has been really good this year, led by ace Marcus Morgan who the Tar Heels will see on Friday. Their number two and three starters are also very good which makes the Hawkeyes a legit contender to come out of the regional.
But with UNC’s bats getting hot at the end of the year, being patient and taking advantage of opportunities at the plate will be huge. Let’s see if UNC can capitalize on it.
