Hawaii football misleading public?

Testing is a big deal in attempting to have college football return this season, in any fashion. There have been some good news at some schools across the country, and others have not been great with practices shutting down.

News came out of Hawaii that on the surface looked really good with the school emailing the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

“Approximately 100 football student-athletes are working out, and none (has) tested positive since arriving on campus (two weeks ago),” the email stated. “The university will not disclose the exact number of tests we have arranged for, and individuals may have been tested without our knowledge.”

Before we continue, the last line of this part of the email makes no sense: “individuals may have been tested without our knowledge.”

Umm… that makes no sense. I personally had a COVID-19 test and they stick a swab deep up your noise, so how in the world could players be testing without their knowledge. There is a saliva test but that still would be done with the players knowledge. It seems hard to believe that any medical test would not be known to the players, specifically during this pandemic.

This brings us to the next part of this interesting story. Many Hawaii football players took to Twitter to say testing has been lacking or not at all.

The question is this a privacy over HIPAA issue regards to testing? Probably not since information can be generic saying x number of athletes tested positive which is what a lot of schools have done during voluntary workouts among athletes back in town.

Seeing one or two raise their voices could be some skepticism but when at least half a dozen come out and say that report on testing is not accurate, that should give some credence to what Hawaii sent out may not be completely truthful.
