Having said that, one executive recently did make a case to me that it would be worthwhile for Ball to return if he gets 100 percent healthy. As noted previously, not many high-level NBA decision-makers have been out to Australia to see Ball in person yet. If he was to return, let NBA teams know that he’d be playing ahead of time, and play exceedingly well in front of high-level decision-makers at the top of the draft, it could create a real sense of momentum for him entering the pre-draft process. Because he’s in a situation that gives him freedom and spacing to do what he wants on the court with Illawarra, it’s seen as being a better opportunity to help himself than Anthony.
