Hall of Famer vouches for Dolphins potential QB target Tua Tagovailoa

If you were looking for yet another endorsement for potential Miami Dolphins quarterback target Tua Tagovailoa, the FantasyPros Football Podcast just came through in the clutch. The podcast hosted Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver Terrell Owens; who in turn spoke with the show about his experience with Tagovailoa — which included a throwing session between the Tua. Owens’ greatest takeaway?

“This dude is the real deal.”

Being a former player, even of Owens’ caliber, doesn’t give him free license to prognosticate Tua’s NFL future — but the man certainly knows something about good (and bad) quarterback play. His first 1,000 yard receiving season came in 1998 courtesy of Steve Young. His first (and only) Super Bowl appearance came courtesy of Donovan McNabb. His final All-Pro season came in 2007 with Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys.

Owens has seen his share of good (or great) ones. And for Owens to offer the level of praise that he does for Tagovailoa, it’s certainly worth the listen.

No one is questioning Tagovailoa’s ability, though. It is his durability that will ultimately decide whether he himself will be able to call himself one of the NFL greats by the time his pro career comes to a close. And whether or not the Dolphins want to risk rolling the dice of their future on him or not is a debate that won’t easily be settled — but the team is running out of time to do so. And once the decision is made, there is no going back.

The Dolphins, in their pursuit of former glory, will need to decide. Fans are already split on the risk — and hearing Owens’ side of the story only further complicates the mixed emotions.
