Legendary college football head coach Bobby Bowden has passed away.
Bowden died Sunday morning due to complications from pancreatic cancer.
Bowden was 91.
In his illustrious career, Bowden posted a head coaching record of 377-129-4 during stints at Florida State, West Virginia and Howard.
With Florida State, Bowden faced Tennessee one time in the inaugural BCS national championship game. The Vols defeated Florida State, 23-16, in the Fiesta Bowl following the 1998 season.
Bowden played at Alabama on the Crimson Tide’s freshman team in 1948 before transferring to Howard where he played quarterback and running back between 1949-52.
He coached Florida State to national championships during the 1993 and 1999 seasons. Bowden won 12 Atlantic Coast Conference titles and two ACC Atlantic division championships.
