Halftime Takeaways: Florida leads UCF at halftime by just one point

It’s a close one in Tampa as Florida and UCF battle to determine who the best in the state is.

Florida and UCF are battling to determine which team is the best in the state this season, and the Gators lead 10-9 at halftime.

It took a while for both teams to get going, but Florida opened things up with a touchdown from its pitbull of a running back Dameon Pierce. The Knights responded with a big rushing drive of their own, but a failed two-point conversion attempt kept the Gators out in front. Chris Howard missed a career-long field goal attempt for Florida on the next drive, allowing UCF to take the lead on a three-point kick of its own. The Gators managed to take the lead before halftime on a 26-yard field goal, but it’ll be a battle to hold onto it in the second half.

Quarterback Emory Jones found some success with his legs, but he’s not finding his receivers all that well, namely Jacob Copeland who plans on transferring next year. The Gators finished the half with only 88 passing yards, so getting that side of the offense going should be a priority after the break.

Florida has been somewhat of a second-half team this season, but UCF isn’t going to hand the Gators the win. Here are three takeaways to pay attention to after one half of play.
