Halftime Hash Marks: 5 takeaways from first half of UF vs. USF

Not the most encouraging first half of football, but at least the Gators have the lead. Here’s a quick look at five takeaways from the first 30 minutes.

The first half of Florida football’s Week 3 matchup with the South Florida Bulls in the Swamp is in the books, and after the first 30 minutes, Gator fans cannot feel terribly good about what they saw so far on Saturday night.

While the Orange and Blue took a 24-13 lead into the locker room, it was not quite what most had expected from what is s mismatch on paper. The home team got on the board first with a field goal following a fumble on the opening drive, after which USF responded with a touchdown.

After a bit of back-and-forth between the two teams, which included some explosive big plays, the Gators finally started to pull away in the waning minutes of the half with a pair of touchdowns coming off a drive and a pick-six. But the fact that it took so long for them to find their groove is a bit disconcerting.

Below is a look at several quick takeaways from the first half of the UF vs. USF game.
