The Carolina Panthers trail the visiting Las Vegas Raiders 17-15 at halftime of their first game of the year.

Here’s how things have been going in all three phases so far.

Offense

Teddy Bridgewater (13/20, 119 yards) has shown a solid grasp of this new Carolina offense, which seems designed to get as many people involved as possible. He has completed passes to seven different receivers. Teddy has also shown some wheels, making a few sharp passes on the move and scrambling for 26 yards on four attempts. Bridgewater also hasn’t been sacked yet despite seeing a fair amount of pressure. He almost threw a pick late in the half, but was fortunate the defender dropped it.

As for the run game, Christian McCaffrey has 31 yards and a touchdown on eight carries. He hasn’t broken off an explosive run yet, though.

Defense

As expected going into the season, things are shakier on defense. Carolina’s secondary has given up a couple big plays, one to wide receiver Henry Ruggs for 45 yards that put the Raiders in position to score their first touchdown. Later, rookie corner Troy Pride Jr. was beaten over the top for a 23-yard score by Nelson Agholor. Even better, No. 1 cornerback Donte Jackson is questionable to return with an ankle injury. Recent waiver-wire pickup Rasul Douglas has taken his spot.

On the bright side, first-round pick Derrick Brown had a strong first half. He batted down a pass at the line of scrimmage and made a nice tackle for a loss in the red zone. Jeremy Chinn (starting at linebacker) also came through with a clutch stop on that drive.

Special teams

Joey Slye made his first couple of field goals, including one to close out the half. However, he missed an extra point attempt after McCaffrey’s touchdown. Return specialist Pharoh Cooper has gotten off to a hot start, totaling 19 yards on a punt return and 38 yards on a kickoff.

Speaking of kickoffs, the Panthers will receive to begin the second half.
