The Aztecs have 11 straight wins against the Bulldogs, including seven straight in Fresno.

Fresno, CA – On Wednesday, December 4th, the SDSU Aztecs (5-2, 1-0) registered a decisive 84-62 win at Save Mart Arena over the Fresno State Bulldogs (3-5, 0-1).

7-foot freshman Magoon Gwath had a breakout performance making 10 of 13 from the floor, including three 3-pointers and two blocked shots ending with 25 points and 10 rebounds.

Gwath’s performance marks the first time in more than a decade that an SDSU player has had at least 20 points and 10 rebounds in a game. Aztec great and all-around fun guy Kawhi Leonard was the last to do so when he made 25 and 12 against Wyoming on Jan. 9, 2010.

Mykell Robinson registered an impressive 20 points and 10 rebounds for Fresno State, despite the crushing Bulldog loss.

Aztecs BJ Davis had 13 points and Wayne McKinney III added 12 as well.

Alex Crawford scored the last five points of the first half to cut Fresno State’s ten-point deficit to five at 29-24.

Elijah Price opened up the second half with a Bulldogs layup, making it 29-26, but then SDSU went on a 13-3 run, never taking their foot off the gas.

The Aztecs have now won three of their last four games and debuted in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 for the first time this season.

Fresno State has, on the other hand, dropped three straight games with an 11th straight loss against SDSU, including seven straight at Save Mart arena.

Notable

San Diego State shot 37% (11 of 30) in the first half but 58% (22 of 38) after the half. Fresno State missed 10 of its first 13 shots during the second half.

Up next

Both teams play Saturday, December 7th, with SDSU hosting University of San Diego (3-5) at 7pm PST, and Fresno State visits Santa Clara.
