It appears that everyone has been asked to give their take on the recent dismay that has affected the Auburn football program.
Even former coaches.
UCF head coach [autotag]Gus Malzahn[/autotag], who led the Tigers from 2013-20, recently sat down with Chris Vannini from The Athletic for an interview regarding the current happenings in Orlando.
As one would expect, he was also asked about the current state of affairs on the Plains, the place he once called home. Even though he has moved on to another program, it appears as if Malzahn’s mind has truly never left Auburn.
“I’ve got a lot of my former players there that I root for on a weekly basis,” Malzahn said in an interview with The Athletic. “I love Auburn and I wish them nothing but the best. I hope everything goes well. I’m so proud of Cadillac Williams, what he’s done, man. It’s been fun to watch him do his thing.”
Malzahn posted a record of 68-35 in eight seasons as Auburn’s head coach. He led the Tigers to two SEC Championship Game appearances, which included an SEC title during his first season in 2013. Also in his first season, Auburn played for a BCS National Championship and was seconds away from earning the title.
Malzahn was fired following the 2020 COVID-altered season, where he went 6-4 against an all-SEC schedule. He was replaced by [autotag]Bryan Harsin[/autotag], who was fired in October after posting a 9-12 record in 21 games as Auburn’s head coach.
