The Atlanta Falcons acted fast once former Rams running back Todd Gurley was released, signing him to a one-year, $6 million contract the very next day.
It seemed like a logical fit with the Falcons having just cut Devonta Freeman and Gurley playing for the University of Georgia in college, but how exactly did the move happen so fast?
During an appearance on Chris Long’s Green Light podcast, Gurley explained that Julio Jones and DeAndre Hopkins showed up at his house shortly after his release to check in on him.
Jones apparently convinced the All-Pro running back to sign with Atlanta. Watch Gurley explain what happened on Long’s podcast below:
Gurley also talked about possibly changing his number to No. 21 or 23 since Falcons running back Qadree Ollison wore the No. 30 last season.
Regardless of what number he wears next season, fans in Atlanta can thank No. 11 for helping Gurley wind up in a Falcons jersey.
