‘GTAIII,’ ‘Vice City’ and ‘San Andreas’ icons in Rockstar Launcher hint at trilogy remaster

You probably won’t need to keep that PlayStation 2 hooked up much longer!

So it looks like those rumors of a Grand Theft Auto trilogy remaster might be legit after all. As new icons for Grand Theft Auto 3Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas  have appeared in Rockstar’s desktop application.

After a recent update to the Rockstar Games Launcher, some eagle-eyed fans found references to the classic PlayStation 2 Grand Theft Auto games that weren’t there before. Several new lines of code reference the Unreal Engine too, which is a game development tool that these alleged remasters are using. There are even spiffy desktop icons for each game.

Check out the new icon artwork for yourself below.

Rockstar has yet to comment on these observations from fans, but it’s getting pretty hard to deny that Grand Theft Auto  remasters are well on the way. Even an official statement from Rockstar denouncing the rumors wouldn’t quell speculation at this point.

Rumors of a remastered Grand Theft Auto trilogy began creeping up this year after Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, started taking down fan-made mods while also mentioning working on some untitled remasters. Recently, Kotaku  reported that there are indeed remasters of the PlayStation 2-era Grand Theft Auto games on the way for several platforms, including the Nintendo Switch.

We’ll likely find out soon if it’s all for real.
