The Tampa Bay Buccaneers pulled off a blockbuster trade yesterday with the New England Patriots that will bring tight end Rob Gronkowski out of retirement and reunite him with quarterback Tom Brady.
The pair worked wonders on the field during their nine-year run together, with Gronk catching 78 touchdown passes from the future Hall of Famer, most by any player. But while fans seemed shocked by the news, Brady, himself, may have seen it coming.
According to Gronkowski, he let Brady know about his possible interest in returning when they met up to throw around the football a few months ago, before Brady had made his decision to leave the Patriots and join Tampa Bay.
Per Gronkowski (via ESPN):
“I said, ‘I’m definitely interested in your decision that you make.’ I didn’t put any pressure on him. I said, ‘If there’s a right opportunity out there, and you go somewhere and that opportunity is right — even if you go back to the Patriots and I feel like the opportunity is right — there’s a possible chance that I would definitely love to reconnect.'”
Gronk went on to say that Brady was “all fired up and juiced up” about the idea. I’m guessing Brady is still feeling that way today.
