The Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday signed first-round pick, and former TCU guard, Desmond Bane to his rookie-scale contract, the team announced in a press release.

Bane, who was the 30th overall pick, was named to the All-Big 12 First Team last season after averaging 16.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.5 steals in 32 games. He emerged as a strong catch-and-shooter threat from deep, converting on 44.2% of his looks from 3-point range.

Memphis acquired the draft rights to Bane from the Boston Celtics in a three-team trade that sent Enes Kanter to the Portland Trail Blazers. The Grizzlies also acquired Mario Hezonja from the Trail Blazers while they sent two future second-round picks to Boston.

Bane figures to be a key addition for the Grizzlies given his ability to shoot. He converted on at least 40% of his 3-point attempts in each of his final three seasons with the Horned Frogs and left as the program’s all-time leader in makes.

His addition will also give the team another playmaker behind Ja Morant. Bane proved to be more than just a shooter at TCU and that should make for a good fit in the rotation next season and beyond.
