Pop artist Grimes and Elon Musk welcomed a baby boy earlier this week, and the internet has been buzzing over the very unconventional name they chose. Musk shared a few adorable baby photos, and revealed on Twitter that the newest Musk is named “X Æ A-12.”
“X Æ A-12” trended on Twitter for the rest of the day, and people got busy trying to decipher the meaning behind the name, or how in the world it’s meant to be pronounced. Fortunately, Grimes has stepped in to settle some of the debates.
Grimes confirmed on Twitter that yes, her son was named, in part, after a reconnaissance aircraft, along with her “elven spelling” of Ai.
•X, the unknown variable ⚔️
•Æ, my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence)
•A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent 🤍
