Gregg Popovich has high praise for ‘remarkable’ Victor Wembanyama

Legendary San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich recently shared some high praise for the “remarkable” Victor Wembanyama.

A quick look at the standings paints a pretty rough picture for the San Antonio Spurs this season. They currently sit at 7-32 on the season. Considering they had the first pick in the draft last year, there wasn’t too much hope of a postseason push, but they probably wished for better results than this.

That said, there is one highlight to the Spurs’ season, and he comes in the form of a 7-foot-4 Frenchman who is lighting up the league. Victor Wembanyama hasn’t helped the Spurs win a ton of games this year, and he clearly has the talent to be the centerpiece of their franchise.

Long-time Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich recently had some high praise for the youngster amidst his impressive rookie season.

“He’s receptive to any type of coaching,” Popovich said via Matt Guzman of Inside the Spurs.” [He has] a really high IQ. He understands the game intuitively. You explain something to him and he understands it. He’s a remarkable 20-year-old.”

From insane dunks to highlight-reel blocks, Wembanyama is a blossoming star on the court and on social media. But more importantly, he clearly impacts at a high level.

So far this year, Wembanyama is averaging 19.6 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.1 steals, and a league-high 3.2 blocks while shooting 45.9% from the floor and 29.2% from behind the three-point arc.

With Wembanyama at the forefront, the Spurs can at least take solace in the fact that they have someone capable of leading them into the future, especially with Popovich’s blessing.
