In a rarity for a Big Ten road game, Rutgers football was able to travel with their marching band for Saturday’s game at Indiana. It afforded Rutgers the opportunity to celebrate on the road a 38-3 win with the alma mater being played by their band.
During the Big Ten Network’s broadcast, the Rutgers band was shown on television several times adding to the atmosphere of the conference game.
It was an attribute not lost on head coach Greg Schiano immediately after the game.
“Our band is out here for a competition in Indianapolis. And we were able to work it out that they came up and really it was you know…a couple times I looked up there. I think they probably couldn’t have been further away, right? But man that was great,” Schiano told reporters after the game.
“And then to be able to go over and sing the alma mater with them and our cheer squads always with us but they mean so much.

“I know that the band and the cheer squad are working to build just like we are right? It’s hard to build a band but over time you can do it. And same thing with a cheer squad. It’s hard to get the numbers you want to be able to do it all. So we’re all doing this thing together. And I’m really thankful for them being here.”
As part of the Music for All’s Bands of America Grand National Championships, Rutgers University had the prestigious honor of performing the exhibition on Saturday evening at the ‘End of Finals Competition.’ The competition was hosted in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium.
