There are still a few players from the 2007 NBA Draft who are in the NBA to this day.
Al Horford, who was taken No. 3 overall by the Atlanta Hawks, is with the Philadelphia 76ers. Mike Conley, who went to the Memphis Grizzlies with the fourth pick in the draft, is a member of the Utah Jazz now.
Of course, the Brooklyn Nets have the best player from the ’07 draft, Kevin Durant. Though fans may remember the Seattle SuperSonics, who picked Durant and became the Oklahoma City Thunder, didn’t have the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. They were slotted at No. 2, while the Portland Trail Blazers were ahead of them. They took the 7-footer, Greg Oden, who unfortunately didn’t last long in the NBA.
Although he’s working on different ventures right now, as he expressed to Alex Kennedy of USA Today SMG’s HoopsHype, Oden still follows the game. And he still keeps tabs on Durant.
Although there’s been reason in the past to think Oden might be envious of Durant or something of the ilk, that’s not the case at all:
I’m happy for KD. I hope and pray that he can come back from this injury and be just like he was before — or even better. I’m nothing but a fan of KD. I wouldn’t say that I cried. I had some feelings inside like, ‘Damn, I was picked first…’ I wish I could be doing those things! I wish I could be the businessman that he is, the good dude that he is. But I’ve never felt anger or like, ‘That should be me!’ I’m a fan of basketball and a fan of him. I wish him nothing but the best and I hope he comes back next year and takes Brooklyn to a championship.
Just like Nets fans and the rest of the basketball world. Oden will have to wait a while to see Durant playing in games again.
