Greg Newsome is a competitor. That much is plainly obvious about the Browns first-round pick.

From the radio interview with his college head coach, Northwestern’s Pat Fitzgerald, to his own introductory media session, everything about Newsome speaks to how much he loves to play football.

“I am honestly ready right now. I wish we could play a game right now and have all the fans there,” Newsome said via Zoom. “Before I got drafted to Cleveland, I always knew that the Dawg Pound was it, but after I got drafted and I see the support from the fans, it’s just amazing honestly. I am so ready to give it my all for these fans. I said it before, I know how much support they gave me, but now I am even more ready to give them all I have.”

His football character is something mentioned in several scouting reports. It’s something that comes through in Newsome’s interviews and it helps explain why the Browns were so attracted to the cornerback–aside from his considerable physical talents.
