Great Osobor, Zoom Diallo lead Washington to 90-53 win over NJIT

The Washington Huskies had eight players score at least eight points in a 90-53 win over NJIT before resuming Big Ten play.

The Washington Huskies held NJIT to 37.3 percent shooting and 17.6 percent from three-point range in their best defensive performance of the season en route to a 90-53 win inside Alaska Airlines Arena.

Eight different Huskies scored at least eight points, led by senior Great Osobor and freshman Zoom Diallo, who had 12 each. Forward Wilhelm Breidenbach joined them in double figures with 10.

Washington shot 55.7 percent from the field and made 10 threes at a 41.7 percent clip, nearly 10 percent better than their season averages. Christian King made 3 triples to lead the Huskies from deep. Breidenbach and Jase Butler both had 2 as well.

The Huskies also had 12 steals, led by starting guards Mekhi Mason and Tyree Ihenacho with 3 each. Mason and Ihenacho each added 2 blocks to pace Danny Sprinkle’s squad as well.

Twelve Huskies saw action, led by Diallo with 26 minutes off the bench. Only freshman guard Dylan Mansour, who played the last two minutes, did not score.

NJIT was led by sophomore guard Sebastian Robinson, who had 16 points on 5-22 shooting but added 6 points from the free throw line. Tim Moore Jr. and Ari Fulton chipped in 14 and 11 points, respectively.

The win advances Washington to 9-4 in Sprinkle’s first season at the helm, a strong recovery after an embarrassing 79-70 loss to Seattle University on December 23. The Huskies resume conference play against Maryland on Thursday at Alaska Airlines Arena.
