ORLANDO — Former University of Tennessee basketball player Grant Williams made a contribution for the Boston Celtics in a victory Tuesday night.
Williams scored three points, pulled down three rebounds and dished out one assist as the Celtics routed the Memphis Grizzlies, 122-107, at ESPN Wide World of Sports Arena. He played 20 minutes in the contest against Memphis, which embroiled in a race for the eighth seed in the Western Conference along with Portland, San Antonio and Phoenix.
Williams, who left Rocky Top after his junior season in 2019 as the two-time defending Southeastern Conference Player of the Year, was a first-round draft pick by Boston in last summer’s NBA draft, going 22nd overall.
His rookie campaign in the league has been a bit of a roller coaster ride and he has played sparingly since the NBA restarted its season in the Central Florida bubble.
He is averaging 3.4 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game for Boston this season.
