ORLANDO — Former University of Tennessee basketball player Grant Williams picked up some significant playing time for the Boston Celtics Wednesday night.

Williams played played 21 minutes and scored nine points in the Celtics’ 128-101 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Playoff Quarterfinals.

He also pulled down six rebounds and dished out a pair of assists to help Boston nab a comeback victory over the Sixers, their longtime Eastern Conference rival, at HP Field House in the Central Florida bubble.

The victory gave the third-seeded Celtics a 2-0 lead in the best-of-7 postseason series over the No. 6 76ers.

Williams’ effort Wednesday represents his most productive outing in his brief postseason career and in Central Florida this summer.

He was a drafted by Boston in the first round of the 2019 NBA draft and he was chosen with the 22nd overall selection.

Williams left Tennessee after his junior season with the Volunteers in 2019 as the two-time Southeastern Conference Player of the Year.

The first-round NBA Playoff series resumes Friday at 6:30 p.m. ET. Game 3 will be nationally televised on TNT.
